Developer & Contributor Program Work Bid / Proposal

View Work Proposal - Support restart of ExtSQL subsystem without server restart.

For introductory information on our Developer program and how to apply, please start here. This page is used to show the details of work that is done by our developer community. To view our lists of projects, please visit our work list. Only approved developers are allowed to make work proposals.

How it works

Our developer work list displays a list of work projects that are either underway or for which we are seeking developer bids for completion. If you have questions about a Work Proposal or think it should be extended to include additional features -- please post those questions/ideas to our Developer Mailing List. This will make sure any clarification is available to all developers.

If you are interested in bidding on this proposal, please fill in your bid information below the work details and click on 'Enter Bid'. If you have already submitted a bid you may change it or withdraw. We don't have a problem with withdrawals before a bidder is chosen.  If you are selected to do the work and then withdraw, it may reduce your chances for future work.

About bidding for work: This is not an auction. We don't display any information about the bids received on work; although you may edit your bid at any time prior to award.  Please treat your bid as a BAFO (Best & Final Offer) for work. When the work is awarded we will display the screename of the winner along with completion date and hours (being the lowest bidder does not guarantee a win as any prior history we have with you is also considered).

If you would like to make a proposal for future work, please go to our Propose Development Work page

Work Proposal Details - Support restart of ExtSQL subsystem without server restart.
Staff Feedback:

Subject: Support restart of ExtSQL subsystem without server restart.

Target: MySQL

Ticket #: (if applicable) 848

Submitting developer: GerryG

Expected Completion Date: 2008-11-01

Expected work hours: 20

Detailed Description of the work to be done:

I.  FUNCTIONALITY to be provided:

At present the extsql_class_list is defined at main server startup and cannot be changed during
operation.  It should be possible to allow the administrator to enter a new class_list_list using a
SET command,
i.e. SET GLOBAL extsql_class_list="......"
and then give a special command to reinit tracking.

II.  JUSTIFICATION for this change:

Expands usability of ExtSQL subsystem

III.  USER INTERFACE SQL examples (if appropriate):

Something along the lines of 'STATISTICS RELOAD;'

IV.  SRC FILE IMPACT (anticipated list of changes, new files):

Will probably require a declaration in extsql.h and implementation in extsql.cc

V. TESTING REQUIREMENTS (how/what needs to be tested):

Will need to be tested at various stages of ExtSQL activity and after all conditions which currently
cause the ExtSQL subsystem to shut down.  Should intelligently save reported data from before the
restart and allocate new space for any newly tracked classes.  Furthermore, we may wish to implement
testing this functionality into the testing procedures in our build process.

VI. LIMITATIONS to ExtSQL Version/OS/Arch (if expected):

n/a

VII. SERVER SECURITY impact:

Authorized users must not be affected.

VIII. EXTSQL VERSIONS implemented:

x.x.2.0
